Cottage Street School PTO Educational Scholarship winner announced

Congratulations to Jordan Greenberg, Sharon High School Senior who is the 2012 recipient of the Cottage Street School PTO Educational Scholarship.  Here is her “Letter to Current Cottage Street students” discussing how her service outside the classroom reflects the current Cottage Street School values of excellence, honesty, responsibility, teamwork, fun, safety, acceptance, kindness, and respect.

Dear Cottage Cougars,

You may not realize it, but you are in the process of paving the path for your future. Inside and outside the classroom, your actions, words, and decisions will have an impact on the rest of your life, so it is imperative that you always remember your values and morals.

Cottage Street School instills nine core values on its students: excellence, honesty, responsibility, teamwork, fun, safety, acceptance, kindness, and respect. If you make sure to incorporate these values in everyday life, you will find yourself in a happy and successful place later on.

One of my extracurricular activities is called TOP Soccer: The Outreach Program for Soccer. It represents each one of the cougar values that I learned at your age. Five times during the spring, a group of high school students travel to Randolph Middle School. For about two hours, we run soccer drills and scrimmages with the special needs students. Teamwork, fun, honesty, and safety all appear through playing games and working cooperatively, while kindness, respect, and acceptance are values that the coaches and participants all show towards one another. In doing so, a friendly, open, relaxing environment is created. In addition, it is my responsibility, as a coach, to help each of the students strive for excellence and achieve the goals that they set for themselves. Anything can be accomplished if you put your mind to it.

As you grow, always remember to stay true to yourself and your values. Know who you are and where you come from and the rest will fall into place.

Best of luck in the future,

Jordan Greenberg
